Building on momentum from a strong 2006, the Shelton Jaycees midyear review shows aggressive growth.
Management Vice President Kate Jager reports results from the first half of 2007 have been very impressive. Annual fundraisers and donation drives have increased substantially. The chapter’s Clothing Drive increased collections 40%. Participation in the Birmingham foundation’s Bowl to Benefit Victims of Domestic Violence increased 50%. Money raised at the Annual Mother’s Day Flower Sale DOUBLED along with the chapter’s corresponding donation to the Pinerock Volunteer Fire Dept.
New projects have also exceeded expectations. The chapter’s first ever Earth Day Clean Up involved over 40 volunteers and removed tons of garbage from the shoreline of the Housatonic river. The Shelton Jaycees have hosted the State Jaycee’s ongoing Public Speaking Training at the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce involving members from across Connecticut. Plus the chapter has received extensive press coverage from their new Charity Card Tournaments.
Michael Sheehan, the organizations 53rd President, expects more growth in the months to come. Our Arts & Crafts Fair has over 80 exhibitors pre registered for the 4th year in a row, while our Car Show Committee continues to expand the vendor section of that event. In the next few months we’ll be focusing on networking and social events in addition to expanding our web presence. September through December will focus even more on hands on leadership training through community action.
